Yes.. there really was a man who shot and killed his entire family in the house. And yes.. that couple (played by Ryan Reynolds and that one chick) who moved into the house years later made up those ghost stories. Like that time Ryan's character kept waking up in the middle of the night? I forget what it was.. like 2am or 3am.. was supposedly the time the dude killed everyone. YEAH FREAKING RIGHT, LIARS. Yeah.. all lies, but they fooled so many people it wasn't even funny. I mean, someone wrote a book about it claiming it was "based on a true story." HA.

Oh my god...but...I have the movie and one of the special features is all this news footage covering the story and showing everything...It seemed so real. I can't believe those people would make that shoot up, and mock something so devastating.
It made for a good movie, but they went about it the wrong way. Shame shame.

Yep the haunting was a ploy by his lawyer to try and get him off. Apparently not only the people who live in the house but the people of Amittyville hate the movies and books because it brings the wrong kind of attention to their town.

WORD.
I'm trying to think of other scary movies based on "true stories" that really aren't true.
Well.. there's "The Exorcism of Emily Rose." They set the movie in modern times. Based on a German girl from I think the 60s or 70s, maybe even sooner. Her family and priest thought she was possessed and basically starved the girl. She died of malnutrition and starvation.. not because freaking demons were "possessing" her. Crazy. I actually have that movie on DVD because I never saw it in theaters. I'm weird.. I don't rent movies.. I buy them. It turned out okay.. it was mostly about the priest's lawyer, played by Laura Linney who was so good in the movie. It wasn't as scary as it was made out to be, though.

I never saw it...but I also buy movies, rather than renting them. Usually without watching them first.
What about "The Omen" with Julia Stiles? I never saw it...

Get web cameras or just watch the same movie over the phone. I wont be joining you for that night, not that I was invited, I know it seems like im into scary movies but I get freaked out real easily. My mom says the scariest movie she ever saw was The Exorcist but I saw it and I didnt find it too scary, I thought it was pretty cool. Not cool meaning, wow stabbing yourself in the hooha and having your head turn around 360degrees, cool.

The omen was pretty good not that scary just a lil weird...my mom said the first one was the best. So I guess nothing can out do the original...the re-make of Amittyville scared the shiat outta me when she's in that closet and the little girl comes and like makes her put her finger in her bullet wound...I think that's what happens I was hiding under the covers LoL.
