gestational diabetes is diabetes you can aquire while pregnant, usually it's temporary. my mother had it while pregnant with my sister but even after having her she still continued with the diabetes. alot of my family has it so i think thats probably why she continued with it. she was also older when she had my sister, 36, which for child bearing is risky. Yep! And I'm a higher risk to get it later - ugh!

And if you get gestational diabetes during your first pregnancy you have like a 70% chance you will get it again during another pregnancy. This past semester I actually had to teach a lady all about gestational and regular diabetes. Because also if you get gestational, you are more likely to get regular.

When I got pregnant with Liz, my second, the doctor gave me the choice of taking the blood sugar test, which involves a hospital visit, or just assume the position and follow the diabetic lifestyle and testing. I chose the later. Figured I had no odds of not having it. lol
